These days my brother is usually my music guru. He's living in Nashville now and has recommended countless artists that I need to check out: Ben Rector, Andy Davis, Erin McCarley, Mumford and Sons, The Civil Wars, Laura Jansen, etc. Of course, many of the ones he's told me about are new favorites! Music has become our "thing" as we've gotten older. The two of us have always been close, but music seems to be the tie that binds us.
When I went away to college in Denver, Josh was a freshman in high school. We would talk on the phone or via email and it seemed every conversation included something about music or an artist to listen to.
My sophomore year, I surprised him for his birthday with plane tickets to visit. He thought that was the big surprise until we walked around a corner downtown and the marque outside the Bluebird Theatre read "Meese (my friend's band we followed) and The Fray." It was their last concert in Denver before going on tour. That was the first show we went to together among countless others we've been to since.
It seems so natural that music is the thing that brings us together. We've grown up surrounded by it and now he's pursuing that passion in Nashville. Something tells me he'll do well there!
Wait for the breakout coming
If I hold out for a while
I will find something better
Shake so your blood keeps pumping
If I wait for it to come
I will find something better
-Break Out by Meese
